I really liked it. The honesty about unpleasant or sad aspects of the authors personality and experiences end up making it more endearing – even when he seems crude and mean again, assuming they are sincere. I’d be intrigued to see the movie not seen the whole thing.
And I know why Robert Crumb got interested in writing his stories, everyday life of Harvey Pekar sucks you in.

He was the unofficial poet laureate of Cleveland, Ohio. It was very interesting to see how polarizing Harvey Pekar is as a figure, as is the concept behind his comics. Funny, interesting, and sometimes profound, Harvey Pekar is well worth checking out.
The stuff he did with Crumb is his best work and genuinely laugh out loud at timesbut everything in this book is a hit.
It features material that was written after the first Anthology came out, plus some older stuff that was left out of the first book.

American Splendor is the series that sparked a revolution in comics and brought graphic novels to the attention of post-adolescent readers everywhere. Worth a visit if you’re ever in town. It doesn’t matter if you like comics or not, Harvey Pekar is a writer worth reading.
On the surface, many of the stories may seem like they do not amount to much. Boats tells Jack that people should escape their families and that people don’t care about good music. This needs a bit of explanation. I saw the fine film version of “American Splendor. I haven’t read the rest, but the collection situation confuses me so much I just dumped this review in the first slot I could find.
